The official installation guide provides very clear instructions, the following points do require your attention though.

• Make sure your system setup meets the minimum requirements.

• Change the ownership of /var/www and its sub-directories to apache, if you installed Apache(httpd) as root. Otherwise, piwik will warn you that it doesn’t have write permissions.

• Fix any error appeared on system check step.
